Achievements
1
Bill for the establishment of National Commission for Human Rights placed at the floor of the National Assembly. Presently it is viewed by the Standing Committee on Human Rights.

Establishment of National Human Rights Coordination Committee.

Installation of Complaint Boxes at the district level, District and Tehsil courts and in the Ministry of Human Rights.

Affiliation of Local and International Human Rights NGOs is in process.

Continuous efforts to address human rights violations throughout the country.

During a visit to Geneva, the Minister for Human Rights has met with key UN Officials, attended UN Human Rights Council, addressed the 12 th Session of the Council, and discussed the state of human rights in Pakistan and the Governments efforts to protect these rights of its people, with representatives of other governments. The Human Rights Officials appreciated Pakistan Government’s commitment to the cause of human rights and welcomed the establishment of Federal Ministry of Human Rights. The Minister for Human Rights also cleared the allegation put on Pakistan’s Government in the Herald Tribune and other international print media regarding ignorance of Pakistan’s Government towards the alleged violation of human rights by Pakistan’s armed forces in conflict affected areas.

Information material printed and disseminated on human rights, given in Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Fundamental Rights in the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, in collaboration with The Asia Foundation and Zia Siddique Foundation
13 Seminar on Enhancement of Civil Society’s Capacity to Promote and Protect Human Rights, held in PC Lahore in collaboration with The Asia Foundation and Zia Siddique Foundation in the month of October 2009
14 Three months (July, August, September, 2009) data have been summarized and the figure of total number of affected children has been calculated.
15 Currently the Ministry of Human Rights is eagerly pursuing ratifications of International Convention Against Torture, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) and International Covenant on Civil & Political Rights. In this regard, a good number of consultative meetings with concerned Ministries have already taken place in the Ministry. Also recently, completed research studies on implications of the ratifications of the said conventions have been circulated to all relevant Ministries for their views/comments before initiating a Summary for soliciting the formal approval of the Cabinet.
16 Pakistan has ratified International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and requires to submit periodic progress reports to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
17 This Ministry of Human Rights is also working on the drafting of; processing and initiating inter-Ministerial consultations, for the next periodic report (21 st and 22 nd) in a single document which is to be submitted by 4 th January, 2012.
