Ambassador of Belgium, H.E. Idesbald Van der Gracht, met with Federal Minister for Law & Justice and Human Rights, Senator Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, to discuss legal and human rights reforms in Pakistan. The Minister shared recent progress, including amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code to improve justice delivery, and the enactment of the ICT Child Marriage Restraint Act 2025. The Minister also raised concerns about the Global Gender Gap Report 2025, noting gaps in data collection, and shared that consultations are underway to address these. Discussions also covered potential reforms on the death penalty. The Ambassador welcomed Pakistan’s legislative progress, especially the Minority Rights Commission Act, and expressed Belgium’s support for ongoing democratic and human rights initiatives.
